Our History
In 1987, when Telecom Audio was first established, music-on-hold was virtually unheard of in the UK. The MUSICLINE music exchange service was first created to support mechanical tape based on-hold systems which required regularly exchanged music programmes for both technical and music programming purposes.
During the early 90's the introduction of digital memory on-hold systems brought far greater reliability but created problems for users because of copyright laws which restricted the unauthorised copying of Original Artist copyright controlled music.
In 1992 Telecom Audio were the first to negotiate a licence with PPL, Phonographic Performance Limited, and MCPS, The Mechanical Copyright Protection Society, who control the dubbing of Original Artist music on behalf of their members, for digital memory based telephone music-on-hold systems.
Legal Copies
This allowed subscribers to the MUSICLINE service to make copies into digital memory on-hold equipment. In fact, the only way that Original Artist music may legally be copied for telephone music-on-hold purposes is through the service of a Licensed Music Service Provider such as Telecom Audio.
The introduction of call centre operations and the ubiquitous call queue meant that music-on-hold moved from being purely a matter of courtesy to being an essential tool proven to encourage callers to wait longer. This focus on on-hold programming and the effects and benefits it has to offer is reflected in the range of services now provided by MUSICLINE.
Our Future
The MUSICLINE service is continually evolving to meet the demanding standards of today’s contact centre and marketing management and we pride ourselves on always being motivated by customer needs. Offering access to both in-house Original Artist music programming services and custom voice recording facilities we bring together the best of both worlds for your on-hold programming project.
